Dana Key | President

Dana Key is a 1997 graduate of North Georgia College, where she met and married her college sweetheart, David.  They moved to Fort Eustis, Virginia the day after their wedding to begin their Army life.  Dana and David both earned their Masters of Education degrees through the University of Oklahoma while stationed in Mannheim, Germany.

Dana and her family arrived for their second tour at Scott Air Force Base in July 2023, completing their 14th PCS.  Dana’s husband David is currently the Deputy Commander of Military Surface Deployment Distribution Command,

Dana has boundary issues and is basically unable to say no to anyone ever.  This drives her husband absolutely bonkers.  Dana loves her family, taking copious amounts of snapshots, reading, snuggling with her puppies, sunflowers, Lifetime movies, Friends (actual companions and the TV show), margaritas, and all things chocolate.

Megan Schaefer | Social Treasurer

For the last 22 years Megan has been a military spouse supporting her husband around the world.  Msgt. Shafer has recently retired, and they are now entering into a new chapter of their lives.

As a military family the Shafer’s have moved around the world from Germany to Alaska, Texas and finally finding a home at Scott, AFB to end their military career.  As a military spouse Megan has often had to redefine her career and role in the community, she found herself in.  She has had the opportunity to explore passions and hobbies.  Megan received a degree from The University of Alaska, Anchorage in Culinary Arts and Event Management, and had the opportunity to study in Florence, Italy at Apicius International School of Hospitality. After an internship at the Denali Center in Anchorage, Megan was able to form her own catering business.  Catering for community events for the Alaska Zoo, Mayor Dan Sullivan and private events, Megan was able to learn to run a successful business.

After returning to the lower 48, Megan was able to pursue a passion with her successful business The Crafty Home DIY.  At The Crafty Home, Megan taught small and large group classes on how to make home décor.  But as all military spouses must do, she had to pivot when they received orders to PCS.  Megan was able to maintain her business by changing the format and taking everything online.

One of Megan’s passions has always been community service.  The Shafer Family has always been a family of service.  They are active members of their church and seek opportunities to serve in their church and community wherever they have lived.  At the Scott’s Spouses Club, Megan has been able to serve as the Fundraising Chair for two years and then as the Community Liaison.  These positions have given Megan a family at Scott, AFB and opportunities to serve the military community and the surrounding communities.  Megan also has served for the last three years as the President of The Relief Society for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the O’Fallon Ward.

Megan is the mother of three children, Remington, who is currently serving in The United States Air Force in Misawa, Japan.  Bryce Ethan who is a senior at Norwich Military College and Helaina Shafer who is a senior at O’Fallon Township High School.
